How To Live A Regret-Free Life (Short Read)

The feeling of regret is something we all often experience throughout life. That time when you finally approach the girl you’ve been wanting to ask out for an eternity, only to realise why you never committed to approached this girl in the first place, and recognising the only thing your taking out is the desire to vacate the area as fast as possible.

For the remainder of the day you are most likely repeating the bad experience over and over in your mind. Doing so in turn will, according to your mind, magically cause the instance which took place to disappear from existence like it never happened, the more times it crosses your mind. You will probably be attempting to justify why you would say such a thing. However, I have recently come to the realisation that regret is a pretty pointless thought to act upon really.

I find the future as sort of a concept, as none of us know if it is going to occur, as it is never guaranteed. No one on earth can prove that the universe is going to exist even 1 second into the future, let alone what will occur within that time. What does this has to do with the current subject? If you are going about your day to day life, the current course of action which you are undertaking at that point in time is in your eyes, or should I say in your mind, the most beneficial to yourself.

Therefore it would be inaccurate to think back to an event in which you were not happy with your actions with a feeling of regret, as given the mindset you were within at that point in time, you were acting to the best of your ability. Just as you cannot judge the actions of another person, in that you do not know what state of mind they were in also.

This is why you should never look back on a situation with the feeling of regret or remorse, as we are only human and do not have the ability to see into the future. Learn to take life as it comes, and be proud of where your actions have brought you.

  1. Right on Jordan. Tubularsock lives in the present moment and conducts his life in the present moment BECAUSE that is all there is. There is no time except NOW. And that’s the way it works.

Thanks for the like on “Monetized Relationship?” at Tubularsock, “. . . first hand coverage, second hand news”. Cheers!

  2. Yes I agree! So many regrets are pointless. We made the best choices we could based on the information, skills, abilities and circumstances we had at the time and then sometimes it a certain situation didn’t work out the way we would have liked it to.. so we regret it, pointless though because we did the best we could before we knew the outcome. The only regret I can think of that has value is when you realise you went against your own “knowing.,” gut feeling or better judgment. Say you knew it was a stupid think to get drunk when you had work the next day but gave in to your urge anyway. Regret (or maybe there’s a better word like reflection or evaluation) serves to show you how you might like to choose differently next time.

    1. Hey there! Thankyou very much for reading! Completely agree with you, forgot to add that in. Reflection on your past mistakes is very important also, but when it gets to the point where you are constantly obsessing over, it it becomes a problem. That’s a great point to add. And yes I could understand you just fine haha. Thanks for the comment! 😀
